This association represents about 400 insurance companies operating in the UK.
The members provide all types of insurance over a very wide band including saving and pensions, life insurance, motor, household, health and mortgage insurance.
The association has a mortgage committee made up of several representatives from leading mortgage insurers who meet quarterly to discuss and promote best practice and discuss issues, such as regulation and the like which could require industry representation for lobbying or negotiation.
Recent initiatives from the ABI mortgage committee include,
- A claims benchmarking exercise designed to define customer priorities and how to ensure they are best served.
- An exercise to make interpretations used in mortgage insurance policies more consistent.
- Research into customer perceptions of mortgage insurance.
The ABI practice for selling General Insurance was the earliest form of regulation in general insurance. The code is to be withdrawn since the onset of the FSA rules.
