The law reform (Husband and Wife) ( Northern Ireland) Act 1964 repealed section 11 of the Married Women’s property Act and substituted new provisions.

The new provisions differ from the old act and are not limited to life policies.   Neither does the policy have to be on someone’s own life.   Child is also defined so as to include stepchild, illegitimate child, adopted child and a person to whom the person is a lawful guardian.
